I’ve been finally getting up at a decent hour, and used my extra time the other day taking pictures of the Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Meridian, Idaho.
I’ve spent a lot of time in this building, and it has always been amazing to look at it. I wanted to get some pictures of it in the early morning hours, and the timing was great the other day.
I remember the first time learning about temples, and the work that is done in them. We believe in the Atonement of Jesus Christ, that through His death and resurrection we are able to return to God and live forever with our families. While faith is a major part of this belief, there are some things that need to be done to prove our faith, our works. Some of those works include baptism and the sealing of our families in the temple.
We also believe that our ancestors and those that died without ever knowing the Gospel of Christ need those same ordinances done, and so we act as proxies for them in the temple.
The temple is also a model for us in our lives. It helps to raise our vision, our thoughts to a higher plane. I know in my life, as I’ve worked and tried to provide for my family I’ve found myself stuck in a very utilitarian mindset. I’ve spent a lot of time focusing on getting the things I’ve needed, and jury-rigging things to make it through with the minimum amount of expenditure. The temple is far from a basic utilitarian building. If you’ve ever seen a chapel, it pales in comparison to the temple. It’s very utilitarian. The temple, wherever it is, is made to the highest standard, and is designed to help us get out of that useful mindset, and help us to think higher, grander thoughts.
I’ve had a few lessons over the last year in this temple, and I will be sharing those in future posts. But this was just some fun pictures I took this week that I wanted to share.
Thanks for looking!
